For example, the "Never Sleep Again" documentary was superb, IMO.Tylerandjackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07728309372305602972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2045215426198457884.post-53285232274820132472012-06-24T12:32:41.936+01:002012-06-24T12:32:41.936+01:00I haven't read the book, either, but I didn...I haven't read the book, either, but I didn't think much of the movie, and your reaction is pretty much the same as mine. It's of an all-too-common genre of docs I've always called "clip shows"--it doesn't really have any greater ambition than being any more than a warm reminiscence on the subject by people who are fond of it. In this case, I'm one who does know my Crystal Lakes from my Elm Streets quite well, but I'm not a big fan of the subgenre, so it really doesn't do anything for me.

I don't think I'd say "damned if they do, damned if they don't," though. Someone could make a great documentary from the slasher phenomenon. This just doesn't do it. What are the slashers, really? What does their rise and fall really mean? Their place in cinema history? The substantial criticism of the subgenre alone would make for a great doc, but it, like these other questions, are barely touched upon. When it comes to meat, the movie doesn't have enough to make a puny chicken wing. Should a film about slasher movies ever be so short of meat?cinemarchaeologisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13507603255666191405noreply@blogger.com
