MTOS: What A Cary Carey Carrie Carry On.

#MTOS is Movie Talk On Sunday, something we try to have happen every week on Twitter, at 2000 BST.

Feel free to join in, always great to see people there. This week, it's a right Cary Carey Carrie Carry On. Look, it gives me a theme, but also allows for a great variety of movies to chat about.

Q1. What is your favourite serious Cary Grant film role?

Q2. What is your favourite comedic Cary Grant film role?

Q3. If you could drop Cary Grant into one modern movie, what would it be, and why?

Q4. It may seem simple to name your favourite Cary Elwes role, but I am asking you to leave The Princess Bride aside.

Q5. But we now have to give The Princess Bride some space here. As you wish. Are you a fan, or in the minority? Favourite cast member, and/or favourite moment?

Q6. Favourite Carey Mulligan role?

Q7. Without spoilers, Promising Young Woman sparked a LOT of debate when it was released. What did you think about it?

Q8a. Who is your favourite member of the Carry On team?

Q8b. What is your favourite Carry On film? This IS an excuse for quotes.

Q9. Carrie has been adapted into films, sequels, and stage musicals. How many incarnations of the material have you seen, and what highlights would you recommend to others?

Q10. Let's end with some love for Carrie Fisher. Please share your favourite non-Star Wars turn.

And that's it. Until next week. . . keep calm and carry on.

MTOS: Summertime Sunshine

#MTOS is Movie Talk On Sunday, something we try to have happen every week on Twitter, at 2000 BST.

Feel free to join in, always great to see people there. And this week I decided to be influenced by the seemingly never-ending heatwave we have been enduring here in the UK (guaranteeing that it ends either by today, or even before these questions go live on Sunday).

Q1) What is your favourite movie with the word "summer" or "sun/sunshine" in the title?

Q2) What is your favourite movie beach scene (nb, in case we all agree on one main title to mention, I am going to exclude the mighty Jaws from this).

Q3) Please share your favourite "hot streak", be it from a director or an actor/actress.

Q4) It burns, it burns. Fire stunts are notoriously dangerous, but do you have a favourite? If in doubt, feel free to mention Backdraft.

Q5) Dante's Peak and Volcano faced off, cinematically, some years ago. What was your favourite of the two, and why?

Q6) Summer is, of course, blockbuster season. We'd love to hear your absolute favourite blockbuster movie viewing experience. Doesn't have to be a favourite film, but something made it truly memorable.

Q7) More word association. Your favourite movie with the word "heat" or "hot" in the title. Yes, I expect many people may just say Heat. So feel free to include some honourable mentions.

Q8) The desert is always very hot and very dry, obviously (it's why they're deserts). So let us have your favourite desert-set sequences. Points removed if your answer autocorrects to dessert.

Q9) How could I almost forget . . . please recommend a favourite film that takes place during a summer holiday.

Q10) You are allowed to plan a summer evening outdoor cinema triple-bill. What films do your show?

I hope to speak to a lot of people again this week, especially as there aren't any football questions here. And don't forget . . . newcomers are as welcome as weekly regulars. Sunday, 2000 BST, be there or be a squished rectangle.

MTOS: Apparently . . . It Came Home.

#MTOS is Movie Talk On Sunday, something we try to have happen every week on Twitter, at 2000 BST.

Feel free to join in, always great to see people there. And there was only one subject on the cards for this week, after that great performance from the Lionesses at the end of last month.

*starting whistle*

Q1) Obvious starter is obvious. What is your favourite film that features football as a key plot element?

Q2) What are your thoughts as football as a cinematic sport? IS it a cinematic sport?

Q3) If you had to spend a match chanting and waving your scarf for one onscreen footballer then who would it be? Some real footballers have made appearances in movies, and there are a few fictional players to choose from.

Q4) There have also been some footie-centric documentaries? Have you seen any, and are there any you recommend to others?

Q5) Hooligans have, sadly, been part and parcel of the game for a few decades now. And they have been shown in a number of movies. Do you have any favourite films of this kind?

HALF TIME - have a rest, have some orange slices. But stay ready for the next half.

*whistle*

Q6) Arguably the other great football story of recent years involves the new owners of Wrexham. Thoughts on this turn of events, and are you interested in the upcoming doc series?

Q7) Football is, of course, different in America. Their ball is pointy. What American Football movies have worked for you? Do you prefer this heathen ruination of the English language?

Q8) The Longest Yard (1974), Mean Machine (2001), and The Longest Yard (2005). Have you seen them? Any of them? All of them? Thoughts on the different versions of the material?

Q9) As in the world around us, we tend to get a focus on the men in sport when it comes to movies. But please share some cinema based around the female of the species.

Q10) Without extra time, recommend one non-sporting film for people who hope to avoid football programming. Which means, yep, it has to have a runtime of approx. 90 minutes.

*final whistle blows*

I hope to speak to a lot of people again this week, especially after having so much fun filling in as "host" last week. And don't forget . . . newcomers are as welcome as weekly regulars. Sunday, 2000 BST, be there or be a squished rectangle.

MTOS: Asian Horror

If you saw the last #mtos post here then you should know what it's all about. Basically, a load of questions are set that will provide us with the opportunity to discuss a movie topic on Sunday (hence Movie Talk On Sunday) with the hashtag #mtos helping you to find everyone involved.

October is the month of horror, of course, and last week saw a great discussion on British horror from #mtos host Film File. This week we're moving away from the UK. It's time to discuss some fine Asian horror. I hope you join us in . . . .  seven dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyys. Sorry, five days. I meant to request that you join us in five days.

1) Kwaidan and Onibaba were both released in 1964. Have you seen them, as influential as they are, and do you have a favourite of the two? #mtos

2) Hausu is a VERY different kind of horror film IMO, and it's madder than a bag of badgers, but it's a kind of mad I love. Please tell me I'm not alone. And how you came to love it. #mtos

3) It's fair to say that the love (or resurgence of love) for Asian horror was kicked off by Ringu, and The Grudge series. What was your entry point, and what impressed you the most about it? #mtos

4) A number of tropes have been established in Asian horror movies. Is there one that makes you roll your eyes (Sadako style) every time it crops up, or are they part of the fun? #mtos

5) Sadako Vs Kayako (2016), was this the ultimate battle of evil that fans never knew they wanted? Was it too silly? And who did you want to win? #mtos

6) Takashi Miike, Takashi Shimizu, Park Chan-wook, Bong Joon-ho, Kim Jee-woon. So many great directors. Who has a filmography that you are most familiar with, and what do they bring to the genre that makes them worth seeking out? #mtos

7) I Saw The Devil, Cold Fish, The Chaser, there are also many horrors from this area with non-supernatural villains. Do you prefer these to the familiar ghosts, and do you have an outright favourite? #mtos

8) Culturally, why do you think Asia, and specifically Japan, manage to craft such creepy films within environments that are often modern, sleek, and heavily populated? #mtos

9) As well as spooky, Asian horror can provide some extreme fare. Have you seen any of those (e.g. the infamous Guinea Pig movies, Grotesque, The Butcher) or do you wonder how anyone can enjoy such nastiness? #mtos

10) Let's end with a recommendation. Tell people the one Asian horror movie that you feel is underseen or just essential viewing for genre fans. #mtos

And that is that. Don't let any of this conversation make you nervous as you get ready for bed this evening. Just relax, make sure the TV is unplugged, don't answer any anonymous numbers on your mobile phone, ignore the creaking stairs, and stay away from anyone with their personal collection of acupuncture needles and piano wire . . . "kiri kiri kiri, kiri . . . kiri . . . kiri."

MTOS: Uncage The Cage

There are two things I love in the world. Well, there are way more than two things I love, but here are two of them.

The first is #MTOS - Movie Talk On Sunday. It's a Twitter conversation, every Sunday evening at 2000 (UK time), and I missed it while it went far too quiet for a while. Ten questions, as many participants as possible. Many, many potential answers. The regular host is now FilmFile.

The second is Nicolas Cage. Which is why, partly to celebrate the release (AT LAST) of Mom & Dad here in the UK, I decided to put forward a potential choice/selection of questions for the upcoming #MTOS. And they have been accepted. So here are the questions, feel free to immerse yourself in the cinematic world of Nicolas Cage, and I hope you join us on Sunday evening.

1. Cage has always tended to have a particular . . . style. Do you like or dislike his work, and why?

2. Favourite Cage role?

3. Is he the weakest member of the Coppolla family?

4. Do you think his career has been strengthened or weakened by his need to pay off some BIG bills?

5. Would you have given your money to Cage in the Superman role?

6. At what point, what movie, do you think Cage went off the deep end?

7. Do you still look forward to Cage in Bruckheimer-produced movies?

8. Do you still look forward to Nicolas Cage movies in general?

9. Who did better? Travolta playing Cage or Cage playing Travolta in Face Off?

10. What role would you like to see Nic Cage play? Any role, new or reworked.
